Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine in which a small tool, usually stone or jade, is repeatedly used to stroke lubricated skin.  The emergence of 'sha' indicates the need for further treatment.  As a therapy, Gua Sha often leaves a substantial amount of petechiae and ecchymosis (bruising).  Although this therapy can leave the affected area slightly sore immediately after treatment, patients generally demonstrate an increased range of motion and report significant pain relief which gradually increases over the next couple days.
